Have a research idea? Clear Roads is inviting members of the winter maintenance and research communities to submit ideas for consideration as future Clear Roads research topics. Research ideas can be submitted by anyone in the winter maintenance community and will be considered by the Clear Roads Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) alongside research problem statements submitted by TAC members. Clear Roads funds winter maintenance research in these six topic areas. The ideas and problem statements that best meet Clear Roads’ priorities will be developed into full-scale research solicitations (RFPs) and posted by Minnesota DOT for competitive bid.
Research ideas may be submitted throughout the year. All ideas will be considered. To have your idea considered in the following year’s research cycle, please email this completed Research Idea Form to Greg Waidley at greg.waidley@ctcandassociates.

DISCLAIMER: Research ideas may be submitted throughout the year, however, all ideas received during a calendar year will be considered during the Clear Roads research cycle, which begins the following January. There is no guarantee that a submitted research idea will be selected by the Clear Roads TAC for funding as a research project. Submitted ideas may be significantly altered by Clear Roads during the project scoping process. Selected ideas will be developed into Requests for Proposals (RFPs) and posted by Minnesota DOT for competitive bid. Research ideas will be shared among the Clear Roads membership (39 state DOTs), so please do not include any proprietary data or information that you do not want made available to the public. Researchers (universities, consultants, etc.) are welcome to submit ideas for consideration; however, please keep in mind that research contracts may not be awarded to the original submitter.
